Acts 11:19-30.

Acts 11:19-30 (Good News Translation) 19Some of the believers who were scattered by the persecution which took place when Stephen was killed went as far as Phoenicia, Cyprus, and Antioch, telling the message to Jews only.           20But other believers, who were from Cyprus and Cyrene, went to Antioch and proclaimed the message to Gentiles           also, telling them the Good News about the Lord Jesus.           21The Lord's power was with them, and a great number of people believed and turned to the Lord.           22The news about this reached the church in Jerusalem, so they sent Barnabas to Antioch.           23When he arrived and saw how God had blessed the people, he was glad and urged them all to be faithful and true to the Lord with all their hearts.           24Barnabas was a good man, full of the Holy Spirit and faith, and many people were brought to the Lord.           25Then Barnabas went to Tarsus to look for Saul.           26When he found him, he took him to An

Act 11:1-18

Acts 11:1-18 (Good News Translation) 1The apostles and the other believers throughout Judea heard that the Gentiles also had received the word of God.           2When Peter went to Jerusalem, those who were in favor of circumcising Gentiles criticized him, saying,           3"You were a guest in the home of uncircumcised Gentiles, and you even ate with them!"           4So Peter gave them a complete account of what had happened from the very beginning:           5While I was praying in the city of Joppa, I had a vision. I saw something coming down that looked like a large sheet being lowered by its four corners from heaven, and it stopped next to me.           6I looked closely inside and saw domesticated and wild animals, reptiles, and wild birds.           7Then I heard a voice saying to me,          "Get up, Peter; kill and eat!"           8But I said,          "Certainly not, Lord! No ritually unclean or defiled food has ever entered my mouth."

Acts 10: 34-48.

Acts 10:34-48 (Good News Translation) 34Peter began to speak:          I now realize that it is true that God treats everyone on the same basis.           35Those who fear him and do what is right are acceptable to him, no matter what race they belong to.           36You know the message he sent to the people of Israel, proclaiming the Good News of peace through Jesus Christ, who is Lord of all.           37You know of the great event that took place throughout the land of Israel, beginning in Galilee after John preached his message of baptism.           38You know about Jesus of Nazareth and how God poured out on him the Holy Spirit and power. He went everywhere, doing good and healing all who were under the power of the Devil, for God was with him.           39We are witnesses of everything that he did in the land of Israel and in Jerusalem. Then they put him to death by nailing him to a cross.           40But God raised him from death three days later and caused him to appear,

Acts 10:1-33.

Acts 10:1-33 (Good News Translation) 1There was a man in Caesarea named Cornelius, who was a captain in the Roman army regiment called          "The Italian Regiment."           2He was a religious man; he and his whole family worshiped God. He also did much to help the Jewish poor people and was constantly praying to God.           3It was about three o'clock one afternoon when he had a vision, in which he clearly saw an angel of God come in and say to him,          "Cornelius!"           4He stared at the angel in fear and said,          "What is it, sir?"          The angel answered,          God is pleased with your prayers and works of charity, and is ready to answer you.           5And now send some men to Joppa for a certain man whose full name is Simon Peter.           6He is a guest in the home of a tanner of leather named Simon, who lives by the sea.           7Then the angel went away, and Cornelius called two of his house servants and

Colossians 1:1-23 (Good News Translation) 1From Paul, who by God's will is an apostle of Christ Jesus, and from our brother Timothy—           2To God's people in Colossae, who are our faithful friends in union with Christ:          May God our Father give you grace and peace.           3We always give thanks to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, when we pray for you.           4For we have heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and of your love for all God's people.           5When the true message, the Good News, first came to you, you heard about the hope it offers. So your faith and love are based on what you hope for, which is kept safe for you in heaven.           6The gospel keeps bringing blessings and is spreading throughout the world, just as it has among you ever since the day you first heard about the grace of God and came to know it as it really is.           7You learned of God's grace from Epaphras, our dear fellow servant, who is Christ's

Acts 9:1-25.

Acts 9:1-25 (Good News Translation)  1In the meantime Saul kept up his violent threats of murder against the followers of the Lord. He went to the High Priest           2and asked for letters of introduction to the synagogues in Damascus, so that if he should find there any followers of the Way of the Lord, he would be able to arrest them, both men and women, and bring them back to Jerusalem.           3As Saul was coming near the city of Damascus, suddenly a light from the sky flashed around him.           4He fell to the ground and heard a voice saying to him,          “Saul, Saul! Why do you persecute me?”           5“Who are you, Lord?” he asked. “I am Jesus, whom you persecute,” the voice said.           6“But get up and go into the city, where you will be told what you must do.”           7The men who were traveling with Saul had stopped, not saying a word; they heard the voice but could not see

Luke 19:1-10.

Luke 19:1-10 (Good News Translation) 1Jesus went on into Jericho and was passing through.           2There was a chief tax collector there named Zacchaeus, who was rich.           3He was trying to see who Jesus was, but he was a little man and could not see Jesus because of the crowd.           4So he ran ahead of the crowd and climbed a sycamore tree to see Jesus, who was going to pass that way.           5When Jesus came to that place, he looked up and said to Zacchaeus,          “Hurry down, Zacchaeus, because I must stay in your house today.”           6Zacchaeus hurried down and welcomed him with great joy.           7All the people who saw it started grumbling,          “This man has gone as a guest to the home of a sinner!”           8Zacchaeus stood up and said to the Lord,          “Listen, sir! I will give half my belongings to the poor, and if I have cheated anyone, I will pay back four times as much.”

Luke 18:15-30.

Luke 18:15-30 (Good News Translation)   15Some people brought their babies to Jesus for him to place his hands on them. The disciples saw them and scolded them for doing so,           16but Jesus called the children to him and said,          Let the children come to me and do not stop them, because the Kingdom of God belongs to such as these.           17Remember this! Whoever does not receive the Kingdom of God like a child will never enter it.           18A Jewish leader asked Jesus,          “Good Teacher, what must I do to receive eternal life?”           19“Why do you call me good?” Jesus asked him.          No one is good except God alone.           20You know the commandments:          “Do not commit adultery; do not commit murder; do not steal; do not accuse anyone falsely; respect your father and your mother.”           21The man replied,          “Ever since I was young, I have obeyed all these commandme

Luke 8:40-56.

Luke 8:40-56 (Good News Translation)  40When Jesus returned to the other side of the lake, the people welcomed him, because they had all been waiting for him.           41Then a man named Jairus arrived; he was an official in the local synagogue. He threw himself down at Jesus' feet and begged him to go to his home,           42because his only daughter, who was twelve years old, was dying.          As Jesus went along, the people were crowding him from every side.           43Among them was a woman who had suffered from severe bleeding for twelve years; she had spent all she had on doctors,           but no one had been able to cure her.           44She came up in the crowd behind Jesus and touched the edge of his cloak, and her bleeding stopped at once.           45Jesus asked,          “Who touched me?”          Everyone denied it, and Peter said,          “Master, the people are all around you and crowding in on you.”           46But

Luke 8:19-39 (Good News Translation)  19Jesus' mother and brothers came to him, but were unable to join him because of the crowd.           20Someone said to Jesus,          “Your mother and brothers are standing outside and want to see you.”           21Jesus said to them all,          “My mother and brothers are those who hear the word of God and obey it.”           22One day Jesus got into a boat with his disciples and said to them,          “Let us go across to the other side of the lake.” So they started out.           23As they were sailing, Jesus fell asleep. Suddenly a strong wind blew down on the lake, and the boat began to fill with water, so that they were all in great danger.           24The disciples went to Jesus and woke him up, saying,          “Master, Master! We are about to die!”          Jesus got up and gave an order to the wind and to the stormy water; they quieted down, and t

Luke 10:1-24 (Good News Translation)  1After this the Lord chose another seventy-two           men and sent them out two by two, to go ahead of him to every town and place where he himself was about to go.           2He said to them,          There is a large harvest, but few workers to gather it in. Pray to the owner of the harvest that he will send out workers to gather in his harvest.           3Go! I am sending you like lambs among wolves.           4Don't take a purse or a beggar's bag or shoes; don't stop to greet anyone on the road.           5Whenever you go into a house, first say,          “Peace be with this house.”           6If someone who is peace-loving lives there, let your greeting of peace remain on that person; if not, take back your greeting of peace.           7Stay in that same house, eating and drinking whatever they offer you, for workers should be given their pay. Luke 9:37-62.

Luke 9:37-62 (Good News Translation)   37The next day Jesus and the three disciples went down from the hill, and a large crowd met Jesus.           38A man shouted from the crowd,          Teacher! I beg you, look at my son—my only son!           39A spirit attacks him with a sudden shout and throws him into a fit, so that he foams at the mouth; it keeps on hurting him and will hardly let him go!           40I begged your disciples to drive it out, but they couldn't.           41Jesus answered,          “How unbelieving and wrong you people are! How long must I stay with you? How long do I have to put up with you?” Then he said to the man,          “Bring your son here.”           42As the boy was coming, the demon knocked him to the ground and threw him into a fit. Jesus gave a command to the evil spirit, healed the boy, and gave him back to his father.           43All the people were amazed at the mighty power of God. The people were st

Luke 9:18-36

Luke 9:18-36 (Good News Translation)   18One day when Jesus was praying alone, the disciples came to him.          “Who do the crowds say I am?” he asked them.           19“Some say that you are John the Baptist,” they answered.          “Others say that you are Elijah, while others say that one of the prophets of long ago has come back to life.”           20“What about you?” he asked them.          “Who do you say I am?”          Peter answered,          “You are God's Messiah.”           21Then Jesus gave them strict orders not to tell this to anyone.           22He also told them,          “The Son of Man must suffer much and be rejected by the elders, the chief priests, and the teachers of the Law. He will be put to death, but three days later he will be raised to life.”           23And he said to them all,          If you want to com

John 17:1-26.

John 17:1-26 (Good News Translation)   1After Jesus finished saying this, he looked up to heaven and said,          Father, the hour has come. Give glory to your Son, so that the Son may give glory to you.           2For you gave him authority over all people, so that he might give eternal life to all those you gave him.           3And eternal life means to know you, the only true God, and to know Jesus Christ, whom you sent.           4I have shown your glory on earth; I have finished the work you gave me to do.           5Father! Give me glory in your presence now, the same glory I had with you before the world was made.           6I have made you known to those you gave me out of the world. They belonged to you, and you gave them to me. They have obeyed your word,           7and now they know that everything you gave me comes from you.           8I gave them the message that you gave me, and they received it; they know that it is true that I came from you, and they believe that

Luke 9:1-17 (Good News Translation)   1Jesus called the twelve disciples together and gave them power and authority to drive out all demons and to cure diseases.           2Then he sent them out to preach the Kingdom of God and to heal the sick,           3after saying to them,          Take nothing with you for the trip: no walking stick, no beggar's bag, no food, no money, not even an extra shirt.           4Wherever you are welcomed, stay in the same house until you leave that town;           5wherever people don't welcome you, leave that town and shake the dust off your feet as a warning to them.           6The disciples left and traveled through all the villages, preaching the Good News and healing people everywhere.           7When Herod, the ruler of Galilee, heard about all the things that were happening, he was very confused, because some people were saying that John the Baptist had come back to life.           8Others were saying that Elijah had appeared, and sti

Luke 7:36-50 (Good News Translation) 36A Pharisee invited Jesus to have dinner with him, and Jesus went to his house and sat down to eat.           37In that town was a woman who lived a sinful life. She heard that Jesus was eating in the Pharisee's house, so she brought an alabaster jar full of perfume           38and stood behind Jesus, by his feet, crying and wetting his feet with her tears. Then she dried his feet with her hair, kissed them, and poured the perfume on them.           39When the Pharisee saw this, he said to himself,          “If this man really were a prophet, he would know who this woman is who is touching him; he would know what kind of sinful life she lives!”           40Jesus spoke up and said to him,          “Simon, I have something to tell you.”          “Yes, Teacher,” he said,          “tell me.”           41“There were two men who owed money to a moneylender,

Luke 7:1-17 (Good News Translation)  1When Jesus had finished saying all these things to the people, he went to Capernaum.           2A Roman officer there had a servant who was very dear to him; the man was sick and about to die.           3When the officer heard about Jesus, he sent some Jewish elders to ask him to come and heal his servant.           4They came to Jesus and begged him earnestly,          This man really deserves your help.           5He loves our people and he himself built a synagogue for us.           6So Jesus went with them. He was not far from the house when the officer sent friends to tell him,          Sir, don't trouble yourself. I do not deserve to have you come into my house,           7neither do I consider myself worthy to come to you in person. Just give the order, and my servant will get well.           8I, too, am a man placed under the authority of superior officers, and I have soldiers under me. I order this one,          “Go!&

Luke 5:17-39.

Luke 5:17-39 (Good News Translation) 17One day when Jesus was teaching, some Pharisees and teachers of the Law were sitting there who had come from every town in Galilee and Judea and from Jerusalem. The power of the Lord was present for Jesus to heal the sick.           18Some men came carrying a paralyzed man on a bed, and they tried to carry him into the house and put him in front of Jesus.           19Because of the crowd, however, they could find no way to take him in. So they carried him up on the roof, made an opening in the tiles, and let him down on his bed into the middle of the group in front of Jesus.           20When Jesus saw how much faith they had, he said to the man,          “Your sins are forgiven, my friend.”           21The teachers of the Law and the Pharisees began to say to themselves,          “Who is this man who speaks such blasphemy! Luke 5:1-16 (Good News Translation) 1One day Jesus was standing on the shore of Lake Gennesaret while the people pushed their way up to him to listen to the word of God.           2He saw two boats pulled up on the beach; the fishermen had left them and were washing the nets.           3Jesus got into one of the boats—it belonged to Simon—and asked him to push off a little from the shore. Jesus sat in the boat and taught the crowd.           4When he finished speaking, he said to Simon,          Push the boat out further to the deep water, and you and your partners let down your nets for a catch.           5Master, Simon answered,          we worked hard all night long and caught nothing. But if you say so, I will let down the nets.           6They let them down and caught such a large number of fish that the nets were about to break.           7So they motioned to their partners in the other boat to come and help them. Luke 4:31-44 (Good News Translation) 31Then Jesus went to Capernaum, a town in Galilee, where he taught the people on the Sabbath. 32They were all amazed at the way he taught, because he spoke with authority. 33In the synagogue was a man who had the spirit of an evil demon in him; he screamed out in a loud voice, 34Ah! What do you want with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Are you here to destroy us? I know who you are: you are God's holy messenger! 35Jesus ordered the spirit, Be quiet and come out of the man! The demon threw the man down in front of them and went out of him without doing him any harm. 36The people were all amazed and said to one another, What kind of words are these? With authority and power this man gives orders to the evil spirits, and they come out! 37And the report about Jesus spread everywhere in that region. 38Jesus left the synagogue and went to Simon's home. He stood up to read the Scriptures           17and was handed          the book of the prophet Isaiah. He unrolled the scroll and found the place where it is written,           18The Spirit of the Lord is upon me,             because he has chosen me to bring good news to the poor.             He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives             and recovery of sight to the blind,             to set free the oppressed               19and announce that the time has come             when the Lord will save his people.               20Jesus rolled up the scroll, gave it back to the attendant, and sat down. Luke 3:1-22.

Luke 3:1-22 (Good News Translation)   1It was the fifteenth year of the rule of Emperor Tiberius; Pontius Pilate was governor of Judea, Herod was ruler of Galilee, and his brother Philip was ruler of the territory of Iturea and Trachonitis; Lysanias was ruler of Abilene,           2and Annas and Caiaphas were High Priests. At that time the word of God came to John son of Zechariah in the desert.           3So John went throughout the whole territory of the Jordan River, preaching,          Turn away from your sins and be baptized, and God will forgive your sins.           4As it is written in          the book of the prophet Isaiah:                           Someone is shouting in the desert:                           Get the road ready for the Lord;             make a straight path for him to travel!               5Every valley must be filled up,             every hill and mountain leveled off.             The winding roads must be made straight,             and the rough paths ma

This was done to make come true what the Lord had said through the prophet,          I called my Son out of Egypt.           16When Herod realized that the visitors from the East had tricked him, he was furious. He gave orders to kill all the boys in Bethlehem and its neighborhood who were two years old and younger—this was done in accordance with what he had learned from the visitors about the time when the star had appeared.           17In this way what the prophet Jeremiah had said came true:           18A sound is heard in Ramah,             the s

Matthew 2:1-12

Matthew 2:1-12 (Good News Translation) 1Jesus was born in the town of Bethlehem in Judea, during the time when Herod was king. Soon afterward, some men who studied the stars came from the East to Jerusalem           2and asked,          Where is the baby born to be the king of the Jews? We saw his star when it came up in the east, and we have come to worship him.           3When King Herod heard about this, he was very upset, and so was everyone else in Jerusalem.           4He called together all the chief priests and the teachers of the Law and asked them,          Where will the Messiah be born?           5In the town of Bethlehem in Judea, they answered.          For this is what the prophet wrote:           6Bethlehem in the land of Judah,             you are by no means the least of the leading cities of Judah;             for from you will come a leader             who will guide my people Israel.               7So Herod called the visitors from

So your faith and love are based on what you hope for, which is kept safe for you in heaven.           6The gospel keeps bringing blessings and is spreading throughout the world, just as it has among you ever since the day you first heard about the grace of God and came to know it as it really is.           7You learned of God's grace from Epaphras, our dear fellow servant, who is Christ's f
